Abstract
En este ensayo se examinan las reglas de membresía al Sistema Nacional de Salud costarricense que regulan la extensión de servicios médicos a poblaciones nacionales y no nacionales, con el fin de argumentar que la ciudadanía constituye uno de los principales criterios de cierre social de dicho sistema.
This essay analyses the rules of membership governing the extension of medical services to national and non-national populations in the context of the Costa Rican healthcare system. It is argued that citizenship constitutes one of the main social closure criteria configuring this healthcare system.
