This text by Augusto Ángel Maya analyzes the environmental crisis as a historical and cultural consequence of the relationship between ecosystems and society. He explains that environmental problems began in the Paleolithic era, with hunting and agriculture, and intensified with the Industrial Revolution and the use of fossil fuels, which destabilized the atmospheric balance and generated pollution, deforestation, and erosion. He points out that modern science, fragmented between the natural and social sciences, fails to fully explain the role of humankind in nature: models such as the man-machine or the man-ape are insufficient. He proposes an interdisciplinary approach that overcomes reductionism and recognizes the fragility of ecosystems, integrating culture, technology, and society. | |
